I guess you can say I’m a bit of a sceptic when it comes to certain types of beauty procedures. I’m definitely not all that experienced with cosmetic surgery or even non-invasive procedures, but I’d like to think I’m a little clued up on them.
While you may not catch me with a tighter jawline or enlarged assets anytime soon, there is one procedure that I’m starting to feel a little more than interested about. Yes, the dreaded Dermaroller.
You may or may not have heard of this little treatment and I’m sure that, like me, as soon as you do know all about it you’ll more than likely be on the fence just like I am. There are those treatments that you instantly know whether you’d consider them or not and then there are ones just like this one – part of you hates the thought, but maybe more of you wants to see what it’s all about.

What is it?
The Dermaroller itself is a small roller like instrument with microscopic needles attached to the head. Sounds a little scary, doesn’t it? At first I wasn’t quite sure what to make of this. Surely something this intimidating will only lead to no good? But, surprisingly, it does quite the opposite.
The Dermaroller aims to stimulate the skin into a more or less regenerative and repairing state. After reading other Derma Roller reviews, I found that many considered it to be the secret to flawless skin. It’s said to improve complexion, minimize fine lines, and treat other skin issues. Pretty good, right?
And What Does it Promise?

The treatment itself is recommended for a range of skin issues, including sun damage, scarring, lines and wrinkles and acne. Now if that isn’t just about every major skin concern covered, I don’t know what is!
When it comes to the results, the skin needling procedure brings about younger looking skin that appears to be much smoother, healthier and more radiant than before the Dermaroller treatment, thanks to it’s regenerative encouragement.
Looking into it a little more scientifically, the problems that it works best with include…
- Fine lines and wrinkles to either the face or décolletage
- Skin that is ageing or sun damaged
- Scarring
- Stretch marks
- And even ageing hands
Which makes me believe that it’s worth trying if you have any of the listed concerns, but maybe even more so if you have a few of them!
Looking into the Dermaroller procedure a little more closely, as well as reviews from those that have actually experienced, it also appears to be great for large pours and helping to reduce them in size. Finally, the promise of the inevitable!
What Does the Procedure Involve?
Firstly, it’s probably worth noting that the treatment requires no downtime at all. One of the things that has always put me off other procedures is the recovery time. I don’t exactly leave the kind of lifestyle where I can happily hide my face for days or weeks on end – it’s just not practical. So it’s definitely a huge selling point that this is just not needed.
The Dermaroller with its micro-needles is rolled over the skin, resulting in over a thousand tiny holes. Now, I know this does seem a little odd, but it does start to make sense. This then results in the skin going straight into recovery mode.
Whilst there is bleeding, the needles do only pierce the skin by 0.1mm in width, so it’s no serious holes that we’re talking about here. The skin then also starts to close as quickly as possible and recovery is said to take place even on the same day.

During the recovery process, the body naturally started to repair the skin that has been treated completely behind the scenes. I’ve even heard that some people feel as if nothing is happening and then it seems to transform overnight. I guess it does take time though, especially seeing as new skin cells need to form and collagen needs to do its thing, which may even be after 6 weeks have passed.
However, a few months later, a visible difference is inevitable, especially after 2-3 treatments which are often recommended to see stronger results. Likewise, it does seem that the worse the conditions are, the better the results will be. So if you’re really worried about your problem, you might see some really strong improvements!
Does the Treatment Hurt?
The short answer: yes. Derm Roller reviews have shared that this isn’t a laser treatment with only a little bit of stinging resulting and some redness. These are little needles piercing your skin which will cause some bleeding. It’s a good idea to use numbing cream if it’s your first time or you have a low pain tolerance.
In order to stimulate a response in your skin, the needles need to penetrate the surface and cause an injury. This sounds dangerous, which is why you should go with a professional to take part in this treatment. There will be some inflammation, requiring recovery time.
For the best results you’ll want to have 3 treatments, each one month apart.
Is it Safe and Where is it Available?

Despite the nature of the procedure, the intimidating instrument and the idea of thousands of little holes in the skin, it is entirely safe – as long as it’s carried out by licensed professionals. For this reason, it is worth inquiring at reputable practices only.
Having been carried out in the US for some time, it is also available in the UK through qualified and certified institutions, including Harley Medical. To ensure that your procedure is safe, it is best to check the reputability of the establishment before inquiring about treatments.
Some individuals do this themselves from the comfort of their home. However, it’s a good idea to go with a professional the first few treatments to get a sense of what it’s like. You also need to invest in some vitamin C serum for the healing process. It will also stimulate collagen and works as a skin lightener for sun damaged skin.
You could invest in a Derma Roller that isn’t as advanced as the professional versions. This is a good option for the fainthearted and will prepare you for the real thing. Remember, the saying “beauty is pain”. Yes, it definitely applies here!
Of course, with the skin being subject to puncturing, it is important that the procedure is only carried out by professionals to ensure no infections occur.
Where Can I Find Out More and Inquire?
While facts and figures are helpful, it is worth taking a look at real-life stories to make sure that it’s the right procedure for you. Many Derma Roller reviews on the internet will offer testimonies. There is a range of before and after images available, each relating to a range of problems, including lines and wrinkles, scarring, acne and sun damage that should advise on any result queries.
There are also a number of licensed venues able to provide detailed advice on the treatment as well as their own experiences and qualifications, so it is worth taking this into consideration before you decide to go ahead with your Dermaroller treatment.
Many users have show results as little as 6 weeks after treatment, boasting that their skin has never looked better. While it’s not a very fun experience as the treatments hurt, many Derma Roller reviews claim it’s well worth it. The skin has a brighter, more even tone and looks dewier with less visible pores.
