Brand Overview

Imran Karim
Imran Karim

The MiniMD device was developed by Trophy Skin, Inc., based out of Texas. Founder Imran Karim was the owner of a successful Texas medspa focusing on non-invasive beauty technology.

Encouraged by results, Karim began to get requests from clients for an at-home product that could achieve similar results (without the time and expense it took to visit the medspa).

Soon after that, Karim sold the business and began work on what would be the Trophy Skin launch product, BlueMD Acne Light. Today, Trophy Skin, Inc. continues to work closely with technology experts around the world to develop at-home beauty and skincare tools.

Application and Regimen Recommendations

According to the Trophy Skin website (where you will also find a somewhat complicated map of the recommended “stroking diagram” for the face):

Following is an overview of the MiniMD treatment process, as found on the Trophy Skin website:

To prepare, begin by washing your face with soap and water, as you would normally. Then, remove the diamond tip from the device by gently twisting and pulling it off. Next, you’ll place a clean black wool filter into the filter seat. Finally, place the diamond tip back onto the device. Now, you’re ready to go!

Once you’re set up, press and hold the Power Button until the device turns on. The MiniMD starts on Low Level. Press the power button again to switch to High Level. When you press the power button while on the highest level, you will then turn the unit back off.

To use the device, hold the MiniMD with the diamond tip completely against the skin, and lightly drag across the face with short, careful strokes.

Follow the suggested stroking diagram found either on the product website or in the information that comes in the box. It looks somewhat complicated at first glance, but makes sense once you’re actually doing it. Use your free hand to brace your skin by holding it slightly taught. This will make this process easier and avoid unnecessary pulling of loose skin.

This treatment process takes approximately 5 minutes, and can be repeated every 2-3 times per week depending on skin.

When you’re finished with your treatment, discard the wool filter and clean the Diamond Tip with soap and water. For a deeper clean, you can use a soft brush, such as an old toothbrush head, nail brush or small bottle brush.

It’s important to always wash your face with cold water after each treatment and apply a good quality moisturizer. We recommend choosing one with SPF or sunblock if going outside.

Reviews

While there were no reviews listed on the Trophy Skin website, there were many unbiased comments from real users easily found online. Of those, the large majority were extremely positive.

Most people found that their skin truly did look and feel better after only one or two uses of MiniMD. Big pros included the high quality diamond abrasion heads, the blackhead extraction tool, the ease of actually using the MiniMD, and the durability of the tips (each should last at least 6 months).

The few negatives we could find among the reviews included the fact that the unit is not cordless (a fact most quickly got over in exchange for the results they saw), some people experienced some mild redness after use (which soon faded), and that some felt the tool was not powerful enough/didn’t have enough suction/didn’t scrub well enough.

We agree with the overarching majority of the reviews that these concerns are not well-founded and that the Trophy Skin MiniMD is a worthy investment. Scroll for even more reasons you’ll love this product.

Overall Rating

MiniMD product

To say that we were very impressed (not to mention pleasantly surprised) by the MiniMD would be an understatement!

We may have gone into this review as unbiased, but now leave it confidently sold on this little skin-scrubbing gadget.

We love not only the incorporation of real microdermabrasion diamond tips, but also the suction, as found in medspa microderm equipment.

The size is another big plus. Overall, this product is very manageable and portable.

Yes, the fact that you are basically chained to an outlet by a cord is a slight drawback. In our experience, it’s one less than ideal factor you can quickly get past once you see the results. Besides, if it were cordless, power and functionality of the tool might suffer.

And it’s microdermabrasion, so of course you should expect to see some mild redness immediately after use, just as you see after a visit to the medspa.

Overall, we love it.

The one downside to the Trophy Skin MiniMD is the cost. We understand that the price tag of $99 might be a little steep. We encourage you to compare that to how much you spend at a med spa and how often you need to go to see long-term results.

Keep in mind, also, the fact that you can use this weekly for a fraction of the cost of those medspa visits, even if you factor in the price of replacement tips and other consumable parts of the system that wear down or run out.

MiniMD is a definite keeper! Worth it!
